Ms. Shahid launched her global career by working alongside Nobel Prize winner Malala Yousafzai as founding CEO to create books, a documentary movie and establish The Malala Fund. Today, she connects philanthropy, venture capital, technology and the media to find and support other female innovators around the world.
Ms. Shahid was a student at Stanford University when one summer, she returned to her native Pakistan to create and run a summer camp for girls in a portion of the country heavily controlled by the Taliban. There she met Malala, who was 12 years old at the time, and members of her family.
“What I never could have predicted, what I never could have imagined is that one of the little girls who I had started mentoring would go on six years later to become the youngest-ever Nobel Peace Prize winner,” she said.
She earned the distinction of being named to both Time and Forbes 30 under 30 lists of world changers and social entrepreneurs, as a business leader, television personality, speaker and women’s rights advocate, working to develop venture funding that supports entrepreneurship among the poorest three billion in the world.
Today some of Ms. Shahid’s efforts include:
- Administering and supporting NOW Ventures
- Hosting ASPIREist, an online news program
- Facilitating Women’s Story telling salons
- Former CEO of The Malala Fund
- Executive producer of He Named Me Malala documentary movie
