English Graduate Curriculum

Students may choose to focus on creative writing, professional writing, or take courses in both areas.

The 30 credits of coursework is broken into five segments -

  1. Graduate Core Workshop Courses (9 credits)
  2. Advanced Writing Courses (9 credits)
  3. Internship (optional 6 credits)
  4. Cognate Courses in Literature ( 9 credits)
  5. Thesis, Portfolio, and Oral Defense (3 credits)

Our research and surveys demonstrated that Milwaukee area businesses who hire writing professionals need writers with a wide array of skills and knowledge.

Advanced, specialized writing courses taught by an award-winning and published faculty also provide the opportunity for students to develop areas of interest.
