College in the Community

If you thought that college was not an option for you, have felt left behind by today’s fast-paced technology in the workplace or have wondered what employment opportunities could open up if you furthered your education, Mount Mary University’s College in the Community program might be a perfect fit for you!

About the Program

College in the Community is a groundbreaking program that allows underserved adults in the community to take up to 10.5 college credits at no cost (or for a low, one-time fee).

Mount Mary has offered this program since 1998 and the program was awarded the Program Innovation Award from ProLiteracy America, the nation’s largest adult literacy organization. The program is a grant-funded partnership among Mount Mary and two community organizations—Milwaukee Achiever Literacy Services and Journey House. Milwaukee Achiever is located on the city’s northwest side and Journey House serves Milwaukee's near south side.

Mount Mary, Journey House and Milwaukee Achiever Literacy Services faculty and staff teach the classes. Classes are computer-intensive with a strong emphasis on language arts. The coursework provides you with the knowledge, skills and abilities to help advance your educational and employment opportunities.
