"As chair of the World Languages Dept. I am proud of the fact that the Spanish major has grown so much from a handful of students when I began working here in 1990 to nearly 100 majors and minors now in 2014.  What I most like, though, is teaching and advising my students, spending time face-to-face with them.  The students make the program special.  About half of the majors are native or heritage speakers of Spanish, which means the other students get a lot of real life practice in the language in class.  We have some great discussions and the students seem to become true friends with each other."
