Urban Education
<back to Transformational Leadership
Milwaukee Academy of Science
Dr. Schwalbach also serves on the Board for Milwaukee Academy of Science, an independent charter school educating students from K4 through twelfth grade. This urban school provides a rigorous 21st century curriculum taught by master educators in collaboration with students, families, staff, and the community.
PAVE
Through her position on PAVE's (Partners Advancing Values in Education) Board of Directors, Dr. Schwalbach is helping this independent non-profit foundation make investments in urban schools so they can successfully educate low-income students.
Milwaukee Succeeds
Serving on Milwaukee Succeed's Leadership Council, Dr. Schwalbach is working with community leaders to improve educational outcomes for every child in Milwaukee, cradle to career. This includes preparing children for school, helping them succeed and graduate from high school, and helping them enroll in college or post-secondary career training.
The newly-formed Milwaukee Succeeds partnership is funded by the Greater Milwaukee Foundation, United Way of Greater Milwaukee, Greater Milwaukee Committee, Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce and Milwaukee Urban League.
Urban Education Fellows Program
Dr. Schwalbach led the development of the Urban Education Fellows Program (UEFP). Co-sponsored by Alverno College and supported in part with funding provided by the Greater Milwaukee Foundation, UEFP is a two-year teacher training program for adults with bachelor's degrees and prior work experience. Incorporating mentoring and coaching, students earn a teaching certificate and master's degree in education preparing them to ultimately improve the quality of education in independent private, parochial or charter schools in the greater Milwaukee area.
