Why a Women's College?

Mount Mary College picture

“Mount Mary College exhibits a consciousness of its foundational purpose and values that is rarely found today.”

Why a Women's College?

Choosing a women’s college will place you in an academic setting that recognizes the manner in which women learn. Small group activities and collaborative learning will distinguish your experience at a women’s college. Opportunities for the development of leadership skills in and out of the classroom will be limitless, preparing you for the wide range of responsibilities you will assume in life.

According to the Women’s College Coalition and the results of the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) students who attend a women’s college are:

  • More engaged than their peers at coeducational institutions
  • More likely to experience high levels of academic challenge
  • Engaged to a higher degree in active and collaborative learning
  • Participating in activities that integrate their classroom and outside of classroom experiences more than their counterparts at coeducational institutions
  • Reporting greater gains of self-confidence and self-understanding
  • More likely to graduate and more than twice as likely as female graduates of coeducational institutions to earn doctoral degrees

Consider the difference that the choice of a women’s college made in the lives of these notable women:

  • Tapp Hancock – Presidential Teaching Award for Innovative Math Instruction
  • Didem Nisanci, Securities Exchange Commission, Chief of Staff
  • Hillary Rodham Clinton, Secretary of State
  • Donna Ricco, New York fashion designer (Mount Mary ’81)
  • Pamela Melroy, NASA astronautAnne Aghion, Emmy Award winning documentary flilmaker

Achieve your highest expectations. Consider a women’s college. Consider Mount Mary.
