Covid Safety Practices
Last semester’s campus safety procedures remain in place:
- Masks must be worn at all times on campus. Nose and mouth covered at all times unless eating or drinking.
- Social distancing means 6 feet between you and others at all times.
- Furniture in classrooms, meeting spaces and common areas are configured for social distancing; please do not move furniture.
Face masks and Personal Hygiene
Every employee and student will be provided with one washable face mask; disposable face masks will be available for visitors or those without a mask.
All employees and students must wear face masks inside buildings on campus and are strongly advised to wear them outside unless you are alone.
They will remain a rule until the Milwaukee Health Department advises us it is not necessary. Social distancing will be required. Students or employees who do not comply may be asked to leave campus and may be subject to disciplinary action.
Plexiglass clear face masks have been received. We have regular cloth and disposable face masks, face shields and clear plastic face masks. Plexiglass face shield do not suffice as a substitute for regular face masks and should only be used for those with severe issues with wearing face masks. In fact the best use is both a face shield and a mask.
Frequent hand-washing is encouraged; washing hands frequently for 20 seconds with warm water and soap is more effective than wearing gloves. Avoid touching your face at all times.
Daily practices
All employees and students must take their temperature and fill out the Health Survey (Employee) or Health Survey (Student) and daily prior to arrival on campus. Anyone who is even slightly ill should remain away from the campus.
There are thermometers available for checking your temperature at the Caroline Hall desk. If you have a visitor who has not checked their temperature prior to coming on campus please take them to that area to check their temperature before bringing them into campus buildings.
Social Distancing
Distance
Maintain a distance of 6 ft. apart or more at all times when inside. THIS IS A REQUIREMENT EVEN IF YOU ARE WEARING MASKS. When outside on campus grounds, face coverings need to be worn when social distancing cannot be maintained (at least 6 ft. apart).
Greetings
Do not shake hands, bump fists or engage in any type of physical contact with others you meet.
Entering an Office
When entering an office, stand in the doorway or at least 6 ft. from anyone in the office.
Hallways
When walking past people in hallways please stay as far away as possible by hugging the wall on the right side of the hall for the direction in which you are traveling. For narrow hallways try to stand aside and let others exit the hallway before entering if possible. Pause at the top or bottom of the stairway if someone is coming toward you and wait for them to pass.
Elevator Etiquette
The capacity of all elevators have been modified to two people maximum to facilitate social distancing. When riding in an elevator, be sure to stand on opposite sides of the elevator and face away from the person riding with you.
Cleaning protocols
Our Mahler cleaning service will disinfect all classrooms and public spaces at the end of each day. They will wipe down handrails, entrances, door handles and paddles, elevator buttons, drinking fountains, bathrooms, hallways and high-touch areas more frequently.
During the day faculty and students will be asked to disinfect spaces when they leave. Cleaning supplies and gloves will be available in all classrooms for disinfecting at the end of each class or the beginning of the next class. Cleaners in classrooms should be sprayed and allowed to sit for three minutes prior to using the space or wiping down. Directions for 3-minute disinfectant will be put into the classrooms to assist in appropriate cleaning.
Students and employees will be issued cloth masks, bottles of hand sanitizer and other cleaning supplies. Refills for cleaning supplies will be available at supply stations throughout campus.
Gloves
Disposable gloves will be available at the area near the Caroline Hall Desk; Gloves may be effective if you are handing out items to others. For your personal safety frequent handwashing is advised.
Plexiglass Shields
Offices that have high customer traffic such as the Welcome Center, Business Office, Financial Aid, Registrar, Caroline Hall front desk, Public Safety, Library, will be provided with plexiglass shields between those working in the office and those visiting the office.
Sanitizing
Sanitizer stations and/or disinfecting wipes will be placed throughout campus. In addition to using sanitizing stations and disinfecting wipes, wash hands regularly for 20 seconds with warm soapy water frequently, especially after being outside of your office.
Bathrooms will be disinfected multiple times each day.
Supply Stations
Refills of supplies listed above can be found at the following locations: Caroline Hall Desk, Welcome Center, Fidelis Hall 144 and Haggerty Library.
Cleaning Supplies and Paper Towels
Each office will be provided with disinfecting spray and paper towels to clean surfaces daily. Employees should work to keep your own office space clean. Spray your office each day when you leave and as often as you desire during the day with the disinfectant supplied to you. The spray must keep the surface wet for 10 minutes to be effective. If it begins to dry, respray it prior to it drying.
Increased Ventilation
If the windows in your classroom are open, you may wish to do that between classes and open the classroom door. You can also open the vent at the top of the door in some rooms.
Food Service
Food service maintains appropriate practices to keep everyone safe.
- Alumnae Dining Room has been reconfigured to allow 102 people in it with social distance spacing.
- If you wish to eat in the dining room or to get food please try to do it prior to noon or after 1 p.m. unless you need to eat during that time. We need to allow spaces for those students and faculty who have only that time to eat. Of course, if there is no crowd you are welcome to dine any time that food service is open.
- A'viands employees will serve food rather than allow any self-service.
- A'viands will also be responsible for wiping down tables after use.
The fountain on all drinking fountains throughout campus will be disconnected, however, bottle fillers will be available in every building. Please bring a water bottle to school to use at these filling locations.
ENFORCEMENT
Supervisors will be responsible for upholding these policies with those in their area. Those who are noncompliant with safety protocols after a reminder may be asked to leave campus. In the case of student non-compliance, Public Safety will be asked to intervene.
