To be eligible for the Mount Mary University's Master of Science in Advanced Dietetics, you must meet the following requirements:

  • be a registered dietitian/registered dietitian nutritionist or have completed the equivalent coursework to meet the eligibility requirements of the Commission on Dietetic Registration to sit for the RD/RDN credentialing exam or have a DPD verification statement.
  • submit all required application materials (see details below)

Note: If you do not qualify for admission to this program based on the requirements above, consider applying for the Integrated Master of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics Program.

Application Deadlines

  • August 1, for fall semester entry
  • December 1, for spring semester entry

Applications received after the deadline will be considered on a rolling basis.

Complete and submit the online Graduate Student Application in the application portal. All of the following application materials can be uploaded via the application portal or sent via postal mail or email to:

Admission decisions will be made after all application materials are received.

  1. Submit the nonrefundable application fee. You can submit the payment online by credit card or other electronic payment method through the application portal. Note: The application fee is waived for Mount Mary alumni. Contact your graduate admission counselor to obtain the waiver code for alumni.
  2. Submit your official transcripts from all colleges or universities attended. You will need to contact each institution (typically the registrar’s office) to have your transcript sent directly to Mount Mary University. If you are in the process of completing a bachelor’s degree, send your current transcript at the time of application and then send your final transcript once your degree is conferred. If you previously attended Mount Mary, you do not need to request Mount Mary transcripts, but you must provide transcripts from other schools, if applicable.
  3. Submit three letters of recommendation. The recommendations should be from professionals in the field of dietetics. Letters from your current supervisors are highly encouraged. Personal recommendations from friends or family members are not acceptable. Recommendation forms and instructions are provided in the Graduate Student Application.
  4. Submit your resume.
  5. Write and submit a career goals statement. The statement should describe your experience in dietetics and professional goals contributing to your decision to pursue graduate study. The statement should be two to three pages and should demonstrate writing competencies appropriate for graduate-level coursework. Please include your name on the statement.
  6. Complete an interview with the program director. Once you submit all application materials, if you're an ideal candidate for the program, the Advanced Master of Science in Dietetics program director will contact you to schedule an interview.

 

The Dietetics Certificates at Mount Mary University are designed for both current IMSND students and Registered Dietitians seeking to expand their expertise in specialized areas of nutrition. These certificates offer advanced education and practical skills. For current RDs, credits earned from these certificates may be applied toward the completion of a master’s degree at Mount Mary University.

Certificate programs in the Dietetics Department are offered every other year and can be completed within one year.

CERTIFICATE IN PRIVATE PRACTICE (9 CREDITS)
The Private Practice Certificate is designed for current RDs and graduate students looking to start a private practice or further develop their existing practice. This program provides advanced skills in nutrition counseling, business management, and multicultural competence, preparing students to successfully manage and grow a private practice while offering culturally competent care. It is ideal for those looking to expand their current scope of knowledge in private practice or build a sustainable, successful nutrition business.

  • DTS 705 The Private Practice Blueprint (3 credits)
  • CON 700 Multicultural Counseling (3 credits)
CERTIFICATE IN NUTRITION AND MENTAL HEALTH (9 CREDITS)
The Certificate in Nutrition and Mental Health is designed for current RDs or graduate students seeking to expand their knowledge in the link between nutrition and mental well-being. This program covers nutritional psychology, nutrition counseling skills, and evidence-based strategies to support mental health. Graduates will be prepared to deliver specialized, holistic nutrition care for clients with mental health challenges, using effective counseling strategies to enhance mental health outcomes.

  • DTS 633 Nutritional Psychology I (3 credits)
  • DTS 635 Nutritional Psychology II (3 credits)
  • DTS 575 Advanced Nutrition Counseling (3 credits)
Earn college & continuing professional education credits at the same time:
Nutrition and dietetics-related academic coursework, including distance learning, at a university accredited by a USDE recognized accrediting agency can be awarded CPEUs. Under the activity description in your Activity Log, indicate whether the coursework was taken during a semester, trimester, or quarter. Academic coursework that qualifies for CPE credit must be started after you have become an RD or DTR and must be completed in your current recertification cycle and the course completion date shall not extend beyond the last day of the term. For those RDs or DTRs concluding a 5-year recertification cycle, the date of completion of academic coursework can be the date of notification of successful course completion. However, successful notice must be received by May 31 of the last year of the recertification cycle.
