Starving Artists' Show on Sept. 7 Offers Artwork for $100 or Less

Over $1 million raised to support students in show's 45-year history

MILWAUKEE, WI (August 5, 2014) - The 2014 Starving Artists' Show® will take place on Sunday, September 7, and runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the west lawn of Mount Mary University's campus at 2900 North Menomonee River Parkway, Milwaukee, WI. The art show, which features more than 230 local and national artists offering original artwork priced at $100 and under, is sponsored and hosted by the Mount Mary University Alumnae Association. Admission is $10 per person and includes ample free parking. Refreshments/concessions are also available for purchase on the show grounds.

To ensure variety and quality, artists in the show were selected by a jury panel from applications from across the U.S. Artwork in a wide range of media is offered and includes original paintings and drawings, photographs, jewelry, sculpture ceramics, glass and metal work and fiber art.

Proceeds, which total more than $1 million, have supported several student initiatives since the show's launch 45 years ago. This year's show will solely support scholars through the endowed Alumnae Scholarship Fund. The show's continued success is due to hundreds of Milwaukee-area Mount Mary University graduates who volunteer their time and talent to this signature event.

The Starving Artists' Show® is one of the last outdoor art shows of the summer season and annually draws an average of 8,600 visitors during the day-long event. Dedicated art patrons begin lining up at 5:00 a.m., with several long-time patrons making a tradition of an early morning breakfast in line. The traditional 10 a.m. show opening is made official by ringing of the Notre Dame Hall Tower bells on campus and sends shoppers sprinting toward their favorite artists' booths.
