Spring 2019 Commencement: We are stronger together
A commitment to one’s dreams and a strong belief in the ability to accomplish them are keys to college success. And for Alana Hayes, this year’s student commencement speaker, she believed her ability to accomplish her dreams from an early age.
“My mom gained her bachelor’s degree while working a full-time job and taking care of her motherly duties,” said Hayes. “Now that’s dedication, therefore I had no excuse to not push myself and continue on to higher education.”
Hayes, a fashion merchandising major with a minor in communications, is among the 258 students who will be graduating from Mount Mary University on Saturday, May 18.
“We are role models for those who might think college is too hard or that they aren’t worthy of gaining a degree,” she said.
