The new intergenerational housing community at Mount Mary University today announced the financial closing of the $45 million project. This future home to seniors, undergraduate single mothers and their children, and the School Sisters of Notre Dame has been given the name Trinity Woods.

Trinity Woods is a three-way partnership between the School Sisters of Notre Dame, Mount Mary University and Milwaukee Catholic Home. Groundbreaking is anticipated September 3, 2020, with a tentative timeline for a grand opening in the fall of 2021.

The name Trinity Woods has a special significance and was chosen with thoughtful consideration, including:

  • “Trinity” simultaneously represents the Catholic/Christian faith and the three partners in this community.
  • “Woods” reflects growth, wisdom and the beautiful, wooded grounds, including the 10-acre forested area adjacent to the site. This high-quality second-growth southern mesic forest is rare in Milwaukee County and is a treasured community resource.
The meaning behind the name Trinity Woods is further illustrated in its logo design.

  • The blue color selected for the word “trinity” connects with the partner logos since blue is used within the logos of all three partners. It also evokes blue sky or a breath of fresh air that is peaceful and calming.
  • The green color selected for the word “woods” honors the setting.

“The name and logo for Trinity Woods are the perfect embodiment of the good work that has been happening to make this innovative housing development a reality,” said Dave Fulcher, CEO of Milwaukee Catholic Home. “We are beyond pleased to participate in this first-of-its-kind venture in Milwaukee, which offers so much promise for residents and the greater community.”

Trinity Woods will provide a vibrant, intergenerational living environment for Sisters and seniors, and an educational and supportive housing option for single mothers who are students at Mount Mary University.  The new community will be comprised of 52 private residences for the School Sisters of Notre Dame, 24 dormitory units for single mothers enrolled as students at Mount Mary University and their young children under the age of 12, and 90 market rate, independent living apartments for individuals over age 62. All buildings will be fully interconnected by a Town Center that incorporates numerous spaces to bring people together in friendly conversation, dining, prayer, learning and socialization.
