All-new Fashion Academy provides summer experience
Students grades 8-12 invited June 21-25 to learn about fashion industry
Mount Mary's summer fashion program has been re-envisioned for 2021 for students interested in tracking style trends, learning sewing and design skills and discovering the creative and business career opportunities in the fashion industry.
The Fashion Academy will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 21 through 25, 2021, at Mount Mary University. It is open to female, male and non-binary students entering grades 8-12. The cost is $200.
Because of the ongoing public health restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Fashion Academy will be limited to 30 participants. Campus spaces have been reorganized to accommodate 6-foot social distancing protocols, and thorough sanitation measures have been put in place.
Beyond the skills-based courses in sewing and photography, students will have a diverse selection of classes to choose from, 10 options that cover everything from career exploration to designing patterns and store layouts using CAD.
“Mount Mary’s new Fashion Academy provides a fresh, a la carte course offering that allows students to choose the areas which they wish to explore,” said Fashion Academy Program Director Trish Kuehnl. “The new format is all about creative exploration and exposing students to the multitude of possibilities that exist within the fashion industry.”
Fashion Academy students will also receive access to this year’s CREO Student Designer Fashion Show, Mount Mary’s student-run production that is being presented in a virtual format for 2021.
