Creating a Sustainable Community
Mount Mary University encourages students, faculty and staff to participate in ongoing sustainability and social justice efforts in the community, on and off campus.
Community Garden
A community garden, located on campus near 92nd Street and Hadley, provides fresh, organic vegetables that are donated to the Second Harvest Food Bank and Milwaukee’s Hunger Task Force. The garden also provides service opportunities for students, faculty and staff.
Annual Campus Cleanup
The Student Athlete Advisory Committee promotes community service by providing opportunities close to home. Students and athletes are encouraged to participate in a springtime campus cleanup each year, as part of the campus Earth Day recognition.
Recycling and Donation Efforts
Campus ministry, student government and other groups organize efforts such as:
- arranging collections of lightly used clothing and shoes to donate to local organizations
- collecting bottle caps for special recycling
Additionally, the Historic Costume Collection recycles its collection with annual sales. Campus furniture that is no longer needed also is offered for sale annually, with funds used to offset the cost of updating office equipment.
